Learn more about the village of

Moulin-sous-Touvent

Like many villages in Lisières de l'Oise, Moulin-sous-Touvent was strongly marked by the Great War. Partly destroyed, the village still bears witness today to the horrors of this first world conflict, revealing its war wounds thanks to its numerous monuments. The medieval festival is an event that allows you to take a step back in time to the Middle Ages. But it also allows you to walk in the footsteps of many soldiers who have trodden our region, thus reminding you of a time that is not so distant.

  • À the Quennevières farm, a monument and plaques commemorate the battle which took place at this same location in June 1915, and where many soldiers lost their lives. The Battle of Quennevières is a significant episode in the history of the Great War of the Oise.
  • Le german cemetery, located on the D85 between the village of Nampcel and the farm of Quennevières, was built by France in 1920. At the bottom of it, you will find a monument dedicated to the 96th German Infantry Regiment which, at the originally, was built in the German cemetery of the Ourscamps forest in Bailly (1914-1917).
  • La butte des zouaves is located north of the Quennevières farm. This mound is a tribute to soldiers buried alive during a bombing. Under the mound surmounted by a cross, lie the bodies of these Zouaves - metropolitan soldiers who came from the colonies and who actively participated in the fighting.
  • L'église dating from the 16th century is classified as a Historic Monument. Its altar evokes the hamlets that disappeared during the First World War. A cylindrical turret placed in the northeast corner leads to the central bell tower, which turns out to be modern, saddle-shaped and decorated with Ionic pilasters. The portal, from the Renaissance, is decorated with arabesques, pilasters, escutcheons, projecting busts, dolphins.
