The Deportation Wagon Memorial

Compiègne

A place of memory of the Second World War, the deportation wagon traces the departure of the 45 prisoners from the Royallieu camp in Compiègne to the death camps.

A memorial at Margy-Compiègne station

To never forget the unthinkable...

The Deportation Wagon Memorial, located at the Margny-Compiègne station, traces the deportation to Germany by rail transport and is intended to be the guarantor of the memory of the 45 prisoners, deported to the "Death camps" from this point, between 000 and 1942, during the last world war.

Complementary to Royallieu Memorial de Compiègne, it allows us to better understand the path followed by the inmates from the internment camp to the station under the guard of the Nazi soldiers as well as their living conditions during the transfer by train.

The Wagons

And mediation supports

In this enclosed and authentic space, two restored wagons have been installed, including one from 1935 of the "40 men, 8 horses" type, silhouettes and various videos with testimonies from former deportees. This symbolic device allows the visitor to relive this tragic episode and helps them understand all the suffering endured by the prisoners.

This place aims to pay tribute to the tens of thousands of resistance fighters, women and men, who opposed the Nazi occupation and sacrificed themselves so that we live today in a free country.
