About us

Saint-Jacques church is a parish Catholic church in the Gothic style.

It comes from two distinct periods: the choir, the transept and the nave with its aisles were built between 1235 and 1270, except for the upper part of the nave; the latter, the bell tower, the chapels along the aisles and the ambulatory were added between 1476 and the middle of the XNUMXth century. The bell tower is a remarkable work, as are the choir and the transept, which represent the oldest parts of the church and which are an interesting illustration of the pre-radiant style.

The interior of the church is marked by the transformations of the end of the Ancien Régime, relating in particular to a marble covering of the choir and dressing of the pillars of the nave with woodwork.

The church was listed in 1998 on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the roads to Santiago de Compostela in France. It is also affiliated with the parish of the Sixteen Blessed Carmelites de Compiègne.

Anecdote: Joan of Arc came to pray there in 1430 the morning of her capture...
